About Privet
Methodology
This page explains where Privet's figures come from, how we process them and what their limits are.
Sources
Every percentage, rate, threshold, dollar amount, date and legal rule on Privet comes from an Australian government source, such as the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Australian Taxation Office, ASIC and state and territory revenue offices. The source, the date we retrieved it and the date it takes effect appear at the bottom of the page and beside the figure. Our data status page shows when each source was last checked and changed.
How figures reach the site
Our systems check each source on a schedule. Sources that publish data files are read directly. For web pages, the system detects changes and holds the affected figures for review. The previous confirmed figure stays on the page, with its date, until a person approves the new one.
How the calculators work
Each calculator states its inputs, assumptions and method in plain English next to the result. Rates and thresholds are read from the same verified data as the rest of the site. Results are rounded for display. Calculators estimate; they do not produce quotes or offers, and they cannot account for every concession, exemption or individual circumstance.
What we do not publish
Government bodies do not publish the interest rates or fees charged by private lenders, so Privet does not publish them either. Our cost estimator uses the numbers you enter.
When sources conflict or are unavailable
We show the last confirmed figure, its date and a notice that the source is being rechecked. Where two government sources disagree, we show both and link to each.
Limits
Laws, rates and thresholds change. Always check the official source and speak to a licensed professional before relying on any figure.
